ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Evgenia Lorcy -"Gvozdetskaya", was Born in Russia, Soviet Union, on 27th February 1971.
Raised in Moscow, during communist regime, in a middle class family, the only daughter of a scientist, grand and great-grand daughter of generals of the Russian Army, she could enjoy a privilege childhood.
At age 4, she was enrolled by her mother in the exclusive Sport Academy in Moscow : Children and Youth Sports School of CSKA Moscow, to become a professional figure skater. Her classmates, who included the Twice Olympic Champion and four, time World Champion "Ekaterina Gordeeva", were trained together by the National figure skating trainer; known to be the best in Russia. All of them had the dream to travel and discover the world outside USSR.
During the next 10 years, Evgenia followed an intensive training in Figure skating and Ballet, and spent her vacations at the summer camps in Crimea (black sea), exclusively reserved for children of the Kremlin “Nomenklatura” (elite).
From age 14 to 16, Evgenia grew too tall for competitions, forcing her to stop her career as professional figure skater. Therefore she was assigned to be part of Russian "Ballet on Ice”, where she performed for two years.
At the same time, thanks to her Grand-Father privilege position as a mayor of one of Moscow’s districts, she was admitted and attended a prestige English school in Moscow, where she received intensive courses in English and theatrical arts. The school had an exclusive student exchange program, with the USA and UK, where she got to be friend with many other American students.
During the collapse of Soviet Union and thanks to the "Perestroika" in 1989 at the age of 18, Evgenia was allowed to leave the USSR and follow her childhood dream, to move to New York (USA). From the beginning she became one of the first Russian fashion model and soon got married to young rising stock broker.
She pursued her modeling career in New-York, Los Angeles and Milan, and became a “GUESS" model, being the face for their Home collection.
Through her travels and work with different designers Evgenia got exposed to the world of high fashion, which inspired her to become one day a designer as well.
Even so having a booming career, Evgenia suffered from personal dramas. Due to her mother's sickness, she had to become the legal guardian of her 2 year old sister, who moved in with her. This situation created difficulties in her married life and the couple ended up divorcing.
In the end of 1994, by the age of 23, with a childhood friend from Russia, Evgenia started her own fashion Label, in New York, called "Ev & EL", short for Evgenia and Elena. After their first fashion show, "Ev & EL" immediately got noticed by the press and critics of the fashion world. By their second season "Ev and EL" opened their boutique in Soho, and the brand got chosen to work as fashion consultant and wardrobe supplier for the TV series “Melrose Place”.
From show to show, the brand "Ev & EL" developed into a fashion and media buzz, which led to dressing celebrities such as Mariah Carrey, Prince, Drew Barrymore, Ether Locklear; and socialites such as Jocelyn Wildenstein, Ivana Trump and Ivanka Trump, who started her modeling career by walking her first fashion runaway show for Ev & EL.
While juggling her fashion career, as one of the booming designers, Evgenia had to educate and take care on her own, of her growing little sister Alexandra.
In 1996, after four successful seasons with "Ev & EL", Evgenia and Elena won the Fashion Venus award, as the Best Upcoming Designers of the year, in NY.
By this time the demand for the brand was exponential, and their distribution went from their Soho boutique, to Nordstrom, Sachs, and else…
Due to the fast growing success, the Label faced a lack of financial capacity to support their increasing production, and because of a different vision of the future development of their company, the two designers broke up in 1998, after four successful years of partnership.
Staying true to her passion for fashion, Evgenia then launched on her own this time a new brand under the name ”Evgenia Gvozdetsky”, still in NY, and followed the CFDA fashion calendar during the next three seasons. Her experience and knowledge in craftsmanship and design developed over the years and her creations went from “prêt-à-porter” to “couture” quality and look. Evgenia continued to dress New York Socialites and work with some of the famous model (who worked for cloths only), such as Jasmine Guinness, Georgina Robertson, Ivanka Trump, Carmen Electra and Adriana Lima who also did her first runway show for Evgenia’s new label.
In 1999 a group of French financiers, who wanted to bring back "Ev& EL" label, re-united Evgenia and Elena, to develop the brand from Paris, and adapt the fashion shows schedule to the Paris fashion calendar.
For Evgenia it was another dream come true to work in the city of fashion, using the most beautiful fabrics and refined craftsmanship in the world. The design team was established in an 18th century Chateau outside of Paris, where Evgenia had limitless inspirational and creative possibilities for the future collections.
The success came back again during the next three seasons, and “Ev & EL” became part of the “Syndicat de la Couture”, and created on order “couture” dresses for the French high society, European and Middle Eastern Royals and elite. “Ev& EL” also did the official fashion show at the “Cannes film festival”.
The development in France and in the US was progressing greatly, until the unfortunate 09-11-2001, after which most of the American stores had to postpone and cancel their orders. This is when the company’s financial partners considered repositioning their involvement with the company, which finally got closed a year later.
That decision came as a disappointment for Evgenia. At this point of her fashion career, after 9 years of entrepreneurship as a designer; she came to a conclusion that she needed to have a break from the fashion industry and rethink her future.
In the following years, she married a French entrepreneur, with whom she had two children, and became involved in Charity work by being on the board of Directors, organizing events and raising funds, for the “Christopher Reeves foundation”.
After having a few years of a break from fashion, while living in between the USA, France, and Dubai, Evgenia has created her new brand called “TsariTza” in 2010.
By being exposed to Europe’s culture and history, Evgenia was inspired to capture the ancient European Regal female style (Queens) and interpret it into a modern look of luxury accessory line called “TsariTza”.(female Tsar)
The company is operating in Los Angeles, California, where Evgenia lives with her family.
